Introducing WidgyKit: One App for Every Home-Screen Widget
Count the widget apps on your phone. A clock app for the clock widget, a weather app for the weather widget, a habit app, a countdown app, a calendar app. Each one has its own fonts, its own colors and its own idea of what a rounded corner should look like. The result is a home screen that looks less like a design and more like a junk drawer.
WidgyKit is built around a simple promise: one app, every widget. Clocks, weather, events, calendar, habits, countdowns, quotes and photos come from a single app and share a single style. This post explains what WidgyKit is, what it can do today and how to set up your first widget in a couple of minutes.
What is WidgyKit?
WidgyKit is a home-screen widget app for iOS and Android. Instead of installing ten apps for ten widgets, you pick ready-made templates from one gallery and place them on your home screen. Because every template shares colors, typography and corner radius, the widgets look like they belong together, even when one shows the weather and the one next to it tracks your morning run.
WidgyKit is available on iOS and Android; see widgykit.com for download details. Versions for macOS, Windows and Linux are in development.
What you can put on your home screen
WidgyKit groups its templates into a handful of widget types:
- Calendar: month views and day agendas
- Weather: current conditions in a style that matches the rest of your screen
- Events: what is coming up next
- World clock: the time in the cities you care about
- Countdowns: days left until a trip, a birthday or a deadline
- Habits: a ring or tracker you can tick off right from the widget
- Quotes and photos: a line of inspiration or a favorite picture
- Productivity: lists such as today’s tasks
The launch gallery includes free templates such as a day agenda, a clock capsule, a habit ring, a sky weather widget and a month calendar, plus premium templates such as a ticket-style countdown, a calendar page, a quote card, a world clock and a today task list. New templates arrive from the WidgyKit team and from creators over time.
Features that make the difference
One matching style
This is the core idea. Every widget follows the same visual rules, so a screen with five widgets looks designed rather than collected.
Three sizes, three real layouts
Every template comes in Small, Medium and Large. Each size has its own layout instead of a stretched copy, so a small clock is clean and a large one has room for more detail.
Works offline
Widgets render from data on your device. Time, calendar and habits keep showing without a signal. Weather keeps its last value and refreshes when you reconnect, and refreshes follow the system schedule to be gentle on battery.
Interactive in place
Mark a habit as done straight from the home screen, or tap a widget to jump to the matching view in the app. No need to open the app just to log a glass of water.
Creator Marketplace and WidgyKit Studio
Beyond the official gallery, the Creator Marketplace lists widgets made by the community: some free, some unlocked with coins, some sold in bundles. If you want to build your own, WidgyKit Studio is a drag-and-drop widget designer on the web with no code required. You can bind elements to data like time, weather, calendar, events and countdowns, preview all three sizes in light and dark mode, and publish to the Marketplace.
How WidgyKit pricing works
WidgyKit is free to start. The free templates, in all three sizes, need no account. When you want more, there are three ways to unlock premium widgets:
- Coins: unlock individual premium widgets. Widgets you unlock stay yours.
- Bundles: a one-time purchase of a themed set of widgets.
- WidgyKit Pro: a monthly or yearly subscription that unlocks every premium widget while it is active, managed by the App Store or Google Play.
Prices are shown in your local currency inside the app. Creators who want to sell their own designs can take a Creator upgrade for the full Studio, coin pricing and an earnings dashboard.
Set up your first widget in 3 steps
- Pick a template in the WidgyKit app. Start with a free one, such as the day agenda or the habit ring.
- Add it to your collection. The widget joins your WidgyKit collection in all three sizes, so you can decide on the size later.
- Place it: long-press your home screen, choose WidgyKit from the widget list and drop the widget where you want it.
Then repeat with a second widget. Because they share a style, the second one is where the “designed” look starts to show.
Who WidgyKit is for
Home screen tinkerers
If you love arranging your phone, WidgyKit gives you a consistent set of building blocks. For layout inspiration, see our aesthetic home screen setup ideas.
Habit builders
A habit ring on the home screen is a daily nudge you cannot scroll past, and you can mark it done without opening anything.
Families spread across time zones
A world clock widget next to your calendar answers “is it too late to call Mum?” at a glance. Vietnamese readers can find a full setup in our guide on lunar calendar and world clock widgets for families abroad.
Designers
With WidgyKit Studio and the Creator Marketplace, your widget designs can reach other people’s home screens.
Privacy
WidgyKit stores your widget data, such as habits, events and notes, on your device. An account is only needed to buy coins, bundles or Pro and to restore them on other devices. Calendar access is optional and only used to show your events in calendar widgets.
Wrapping up
A great home screen should feel like one thought, not ten apps arguing. WidgyKit gives you clocks, weather, calendar, habits, countdowns and more in one matching style, free to start and offline-friendly. Visit the WidgyKit app page to learn more, and see widgykit.com for how to get it on iOS and Android.
FAQ
Is WidgyKit free?
Yes. You can download WidgyKit and use the free widgets without an account. Premium widgets unlock with coins, as part of a themed bundle, or all at once with a WidgyKit Pro subscription.
Do I need an account to use WidgyKit?
No. You only sign in, with Apple, Google or email, when you buy coins, a bundle or Pro, so your purchases can be restored on your other devices.
Do WidgyKit widgets work without internet?
Yes. Widgets render from data stored on your device, so time, calendar and habits still show offline. Online widgets like weather keep the last value and refresh when you are back online.
